2nd Appointment

On Slurpee Day (7/11) we had our second appointment with the OB. The big "item" on the schedule was the Harmony Screening Test which tests for three trisomies without the invasive procedures of past. The big three they are testing for are Trisomy 21/Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 18/Edward's Syndrome, and Trisomy 13/Patau's Syndrome. The latter two are more severe than Down's Syndrome and can greatly shorten the life expectancy of the baby, so we took this testing as an opportunity to better prepare ourselves for any health needs.

To determine the health of the baby I had to offer a lot of blood for analysis and we were given an "additional" sonogram to the routine schedule. The goal of this sonogram was to measure the neck folds of the baby (which looked normal). While we don't have the final results of our testing (blood tests with the neck measurements), peanut put on quite the show and took some pretty nice pictures.

Our baby is ACTIVE! Moving all over the place and making it a little difficult to get that neck picture (bottom right picture). Playing with hands, kicking legs, and swallowing amniotic fluid. It was a great visit. We also had to watch a video, give some family history, and more boring activities in comparison.

In only a few short days we will be at the 14 week mark, which puts us at the start of the second trimester. In theory I get to say goodbye to "morning" sickness  (which is a cruel name for an awful feeling that lingers all day) and fatigue and trade it in for a more definite baby bump. I've been fortunate to still "fit" in my clothes.

My next appointment is in a month but I do not believe we will have any new sonogram pictures until September 7th, when we learn the gender of the baby.

We also head to HHI this weekend. I look forward to seeing my extended family and sharing another memorable week in the sun and eating a lot.

Sharing the News

Chris and I attended a cook out this weekend with some of my college friends. We were able to announce our pregnancy to the group at this time. Our hostess, Stefanie always has a toast  during her parties. Rhonda and I had our husbands substitute our wine glasses with milk glasses.

We also called a few out of town friends to let them in on the news as well. It was a special day for us all.

Today we purchased our first outfit for Peanut. As Chris said, "Our child is very fashionable- having an outfit ready for the Super Bowl seven months before the event."
